The Financial Post is hiring a technology reporter to cover the innovation economy.
New technologies and the companies that control them are shaping our lives like never before.
The successful candidate will be passionate about all aspects of this rapidly shifting landscape, from startups and the financial ecosystems that feed them to the disruptive impacts of the tech giants that have come to dominate the economy.
What you’ll do:
As the Financial Post’s dedicated technology reporter, you’ll cultivate sources, comb through legal documents and familiarize yourself with the details of government policy at home and around the world, as you explain this complex and evolving sector to readers across the country.
That means breaking news on tight deadlines as well as contributing features and explanatory work. You’ll also be expected to engage with readers and industry online, on social media and at live events, as part of an ongoing conversation about the sector.
Your goal will be to make the Financial Post an essential landing spot for all parties interested in this essential topic.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of reporting experience, preferably in business journalism
- A passion for technology and how it affects our lives and the economy
- Familiarity with the people, companies and issues at the heart of the innovation economy, including topics such as intellectual property, competition law and ethics
- Demonstrated ability to identify trends and drivers behind the news, allowing you to explain not just what is happening, but why — and what it means
- Demonstrated ability to write effectively in different formats, from breaking news to explanatory work to long-form features.
- Experience with data analysis is an asset
- Video or podcast experience is an asset
