Bureau Chief — Financial Post
- Help set the daily agenda and coordinate the work of a team of journalists covering business and economic topics, in connection with other Postmedia editors in the region .
- Assign, edit, rewrite and post stories on a daily basis, under tight deadlines, as needed
- Be willing to report and write when needed
- Coordinate with the national editing team based in Toronto on a daily basis.
- Pursue new ways to connect with readers and develop products relevant for Western and national audiences, such as newsletters and virtual or in-person events.
- You have 5+ years of reporting and/or editing experience in a daily newsroom, preferably in business journalism
- You are a steady newsroom hand, a collaborative teammate and self-starter who can do their job with minimal oversight, but take direction when required
- You have a demonstrated ability to work with reporters, including assigning stories, editing a significant flow of raw copy and rewriting when required, all on strict deadlines
- You are familiar with the business climate in Western Canada, in particular the people, companies and issues that shape Canada’s energy sector
- You possess strong copy-editing skills and knowledge of CP Style
- You are willing to represent the Financial Post at events and work on new products that serve and expand our audience, such as newsletters
- You are familiar with the steps involved in preparing articles for online publication
