Facilities - Maintenance Technician
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Facilities Supervisor, the Facilities Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining the Facility’s equipment to assure its uninterrupted operation, and maintaining production ancillary equipment to achieve uninterrupted Molding, Printing and Shrink Sleeving production as scheduled. This position is also responsible for performing maintenance and repairs related to building, offices, washrooms, and grounds different areas such as electrical, HVAC, plumbing and grounds-keeping.

- Ensures all safety, security and fire regulations and policies are followed for Lee’s Summit building and Facilities Equipment.
- Performs preventative maintenance procedures for Facilities equipment, Building, and Grounds as assigned by Facilities Supervisor
- Records tasks completion on Facilities Checks and Services Chart
- Makes recommendations for major repairs and purchases to Facilities Supervisor.
- Monitors and controls Building Automation System to assure best operation of chillers, cooling towers, heat exchanger to satisfy Plant need of chilled and tower cooling water.
- Monitors and controls Compressed Air System (compressors, dryers, and filters) to assure compliance with compressed air pressure required by thermoforming and the rest of the plant. Monitor quality of compressed air and energy usage to compress air.
- Repairs Facilities equipment such as: water pumps, cooling towers, water tanks, motors, supply and exhaust fans and vacuum pumps for molding and printing.
- Assists on Chillers, Towers, & Heat Exchangers PM
- Assists certified compressor & dryer technicians during Compressor & Dryer scheduled PM.
- Performs maintenance and repairs to material handling systems: rail car unloading system, vacuum pumps and motors, surge bins loaders, piping, and silo accessories.
- Inspects and maintains roof top equipment: A/C units for plant and office, exhaust fans, roof drains, ventilation systems.
- Assists on roof top and mezzanine HVAC equipment PM.
- Maintains and repairs to Air Handling Units, VRF, gas space heaters, sprinkler systems, water, gas, and all associated equipment.
- Reviews with Chemical treatment expert the water test results, repair of chemical equipment, tanks, pumps, etc.
- Maintains good housekeeping in Mechanical room and Facilities storage areas.
- Supports cleaners to clean external areas such as entranceways, sidewalks, and parking lots using manual brooms, rakes, shovels etc.
- Monitors work performed by gardener or snow removal contractors to remove dirt, leaves, snow, and other refuse.
- Performs minor gardening and lawn maintenance tasks such as mowing, weeding, pruning, and watering.
- Completes and maintains related records such as maintenance logs and security incident reports.
- Transports equipment, furniture and supplies manually and/or using aides such as dollies and carts.
- Operates Sky-Jack or Articulated Boom as required.
- Ensure energy savings and continuous improvement initiative are followed.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Performs all your duties with care and safely, due diligence and comply with industrial safety rules and company’s safety rules and policies.
Note: Work is performed in a production environment with moderate levels of noise. Heavy lifting and prolonged standing is required. Walking, climbing, reaching, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling, gripping and grasping, are required in this position.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Educational Requirements: Industrial Millwright and/or Gas fitting license is required as well as high school diploma. Knowledge of pneumatics and ability to read mechanical drawings and blueprints is required.
Minimum Experience/Field: Five years of registered trade level experience in building and utilities maintenance. Minimum two years’ experience in Plastic industry, specifically in molded plastics and/or food packaging industry preferred. Familiarity with building automation is an asset.
Computer Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting and prolonged standing is required. Walking, climbing, reaching, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling are required in this position.
Communication Skills: Job required fluency in written and spoken English is a must. Proven track record working well with others and problem resolution in a collaborative, positive manner
Additional Education/Experience/Skills: Strong mechanical ability and ability to replace bearings, bushings, shafts, gears and belts. Must be able to read and understand blueprints. Good basic understanding of the principles of pneumatics. Proficient in the use of mechanics’ hand tools and in using precision measuring tools and machine shop equipment.
Training: On-the-job training is provided by the company using the buddy system until the individual is completely familiar with workplace environment and equipment. Health and Safety, WHMIS, SQF policies and procedures are provided by Polytainers.
