Reporting to the Plant Science Manager the Research Assistant, Molecular Biology, will play a vital role in laboratory, bioinformatics, and plant work to support horticulture, breeding, and biotechnology research related to Organigram Cannabis production. The incumbent will be a self-starter who takes initiative and exhibits strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills and maintain a positive, professional attitude in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and use of molecular markers for marker-assisted selection
  • Sample collection for third party analysis
  • DNA extraction and sequence analysis
  • Routine plant science tasks (e.g., watering, cloning, HPLC collection)
  • Basic microbiology and pathology tasks including fungal, bacterial, and viral identification
  • Other related tasks as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • MSc or BSc + 2 years experience in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related field

  • Experience in molecular biology techniques: DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, nucleic acid gel electrophoresis, etc.

  • Familiarity with bioinformatics: primer design, gene cloning, comparative genomics, statistical analysis, etc.

  • Proficiency in software applications such as MS Office, Geneious, and Python/R

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Security Clearance as per ACMP requirements

  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English

  • Exceptional attention to detail and a willingness to learn

  • Capacity to manage projects with multiple work streams, both independently and collaboratively
