Position Summary
The Director, Finance and Accounting (US) will join the Metergy finance team in Markham, Ontario, with primary responsibility to support our businesses in the US.
This is a Hybrid role with 4 days in office (Markham) per week and periodic travel to the US once per month (New York City and Philadelphia).
Responsibilities
- Responsible for annual audit process and audited US financial statements and actively participate and lead the resolution of technical accounting issues;
- Oversee month-end closing process including the review and approval of journal entries;
- Oversee consolidation of our US finance function, processes, and systems between Metergy’s various US subsidiaries;
- Implement and maintain finance and accounting policies and procedures, including but not limited to, audit controls for all areas of the finance department, financial accounting and reporting;
- Lead, motivate and develop a high-performing US finance team in Markham (currently three), with support in New York City and Philadelphia (currently five), capable of meeting the demands of a dynamic company, foster a culture of continuous improvement;
- Collaborate with our FP&A function to compile, analyze and report on key business operating metrics/drivers, including ability to link operating and financial trends and variances;
- Collaborate with our Treasury function to ensure accurate cash forecasting;
- Assist in preparation of various analyses and reports for senior management to support their business decision making, and for the board of directors including monthly and quarterly board reports;
- Involvement with preparation of forecasting and business planning process;
- Ad-hoc analyses and presentations on financial and operational results, as well as supporting any special projects i.e. ERP implementation (D365)
Requirements
- Recognized professional accounting designation (CPA, CA preferred);
- Minimum seven years of work experience in an accounting function, with a track record of high performance and demonstrated experience in a leadership capacity;
- Highly proficient in Excel, including ability to model and use advanced functions;
- Highly proficient in PowerPoint, including ability to generate presentations;
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) a strong asset
- US Sales tax experience a strong asset
- Quickbooks experience an asset
- Experience managing remote employees (accounting and clerical)
- Strong attention to detail, a must, with ability to deliver management ready materials;
- Demonstrated leadership ability and is a team player;
- Effective managing multiple projects and working under time constraints, deadlines and organizational demands;
- Excellent organizational skills and capability to effectively manage priorities and apply a pragmatic and efficient approach to timely handle complex assignments;
- Self-motivated and pro-active, with respect to both managing workload and professional development;
