Unitec Operator
Jealous Fruits is the northernmost large scale cherry producer in North America. We grow premium cherries along the shores of Okanagan Lake in the renowned Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, Canada. Our cherries are all packed in our state-of-the-art facility, located right on our farm, and shipped to our customers worldwide.
Job Purpose
Under the direction of the Plant Operations Manager, the Unitec Auto-palletizer Operator is responsible for the last step in the packing process: placing packed product onto pallets by operating the Unitec Automatic Palletizing machines.
Duties and responsibilities
- Supervise maintenance and calibration of Unitec equipment.
- Choose and monitor machine settings to maintain high presentation and safety standards.
- Liaise with the Palletizing Coordinator to safely maximize the efficiency and throughput of 3 Unitec autopalletizing machines.
- Accurately maintain full traceability with lot and variety changes.
- Coordinate with the inventory team to ensure all pallets are correctly counted.
Qualifications
- Minimum of one season running fruit packing or palletizing equipment required.
- Unitec equipment experience preferred. Experience with similar equipment will be considered.
- Prefer experience on a line capable of running >8 tons of cherries per hour.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills required.
- Proficient in English or Spanish (preferred applicant can speak both).
- Well organized, positive, and self-motivated.
- Good computer competency required, experience with Unitec software preferred.
- Be comfortable working around machinery. A background in engineering is an asset.
Working conditions
Our working environment is extremely challenging over a short period of time. Applicants should be aware that this is a farming environment and days off may be limited during our growing and packing season.
- Work hours are dependent on crop maturity and weather.
- The role is agricultural employment and overtime provisions do not apply.
- Environment is cold (~ 0 C).
- Area has machinery and forklift traffic.
- Applicants must be available from early July until early September.
