SUMMARY
The Human Resources Business Partner plays a key role in the Human Resources Department for their designated terminals and departmental managers. The Human Resources (HR) Business Partner is responsible for building strong relationships and rapport with all managers and employees. This position will add strategic value and will be the go to Human Resources representative for the designated terminal location(s). This position will provide support in areas including but not limited to employee relations, legislative compliance, retention efforts, succession planning, and change initiatives in the specific location(s). This position will be working closely with the Human Resources Team and designated Terminal Manager to meet operational and strategic company needs.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Building rapport and relationships with key managers to execute corporate and terminal strategic goals
- Adding value to the designated locations while working alongside the managers and will be the go to Human Resources representative for guidance and support. Serve as an employee ambassador for staff to ask questions and provide feedback.
- Advise and assist all employees at designated terminals on the interpretation and administration of the Canada Labour Code laws, policies and procedures, job duties, working conditions, wages, and opportunities for promotion. Working in conjunction with the Corporate Human Resources Manager for full interpretation when required.
- Oversee employee relations at designated terminals. Working in coordination with Managers to address and provide recommendations for staffing concerns, providing statistical reports on employees, assist in managing employee files. Resolve employee relations problems, conduct full violence and harassment investigations, and participate in progressive discipline and termination conversations, and assist managers in employee retention opportunities.
- Initiate recurring meetings with designated terminal managers and attending departmental meetings when requested by managers
- Work closely with designated terminals to establish and evaluate high performing employees towards succession planning objectives. Assist management in performance management and evaluations
- Work alongside Corporate Recruiting Department to support Managers and/or Supervisors with any recruitment needs. Support management with interviews when requested and train management in best practices.
- Utilize our Predictive Index tool for departments to work with their teams effectively and efficiently and conduct thorough analysis of PI results while offering suggestions to management
- Work with compensation specialist and managers to maintain updated job descriptions and analysis on job functions and departmental needs. All job description revisions must be approved by Human Resources.
- Complete training needs assessments. Working with the managers to determine the best type of training to offer managers and employees. Coordinate and conduct employee, supervisor, and management training.
- Gather qualitative and quantitative retention data by conducting and analysing employee surveys, recommend retention initiatives to Human Resources Manager
- Compile quarterly statistical reports and metrics concerning personnel-related data such as turnover, cost of vacancy, absenteeism rates, retention rate per manager etc. for designated terminals
- Working with the Corporate Human Resources team to Research and analyse HR Metrics
- Participate in employee engagement and company programs and committees. Send Human Resources related communications to designated terminals and discuss communications with management. Propose Recognition and appreciation programs.
- Complete new employee onboarding and conduct virtual group orientations on designated dates. Confirm all required paperwork is complete and send to Human Resources Administrator. Ensure the onboarding process is welcoming, thorough and incorporates the company culture
- Perform research for the Corporate Human Resources department; assists with special projects and performs related duties as assigned. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and comply with Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
- Assist Human Resources team members with a variety of projects when required.
- Travel to designated locations required on a scheduled basis.
- Perform all other Human Resources related duties as directed
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum completion of a college diploma or other related program study in Human Resources Management
- Certified Human Resources designation or working towards designation is considered an asset, (CHRP or CHRL)
- Bilingualism is required (French and English)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in the Human Resources field. Must have had experience with employee relations issues. Previous experience in the trucking industry is an asset. (Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be evaluated).
- Accuracy and confidentiality is a must
- Demonstrated knowledge of human resources management practices
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work, sometimes with conflicting priorities. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Attention to detail, being organized and a positive team player
- Proficient skills in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
- Good judgement, strong decision-making and problem-solving skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Analytical thinking, organizational awareness
- Ability to organize, prioritize and to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
- Proven conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- Ability to conduct training and create presentations.
