Cermaq Canada is currently seeking a permanent full-time Saltwater Assistant Site Manager for our saltwater operations. This position will be primarily based at our sea sites in Tofino, BC. We provide company paid bus and boat transport from communities to our farms in Tofino. Buses leave from Campbell River and make various stops all the way through to Port Alberni before landing at the dock in Tofino. Your home away from home includes a well-stocked kitchen, Wi-Fi access and satellite tv.

If you have an education and/or experience in saltwater salmon production, we want to hear from you. We have a current need for safety conscious team players in our Tofino saltwater farm sites. We are looking for Assistant Site Managers to produce the world-class salmon we are known for.
 
As an Assistant Site Manager, you will lead a team of technicians through all site activities at your sea site. Your objective will be to optimize production while maintaining operational standards and excellent fish health.

Key Accountabilities:

  • You will be responsible for providing support to your team on the farm through general husbandry operations, ensuring a healthy lifecycle of fish from smolt intakes, growth to harvest.
  • Under the supervision of your Saltwater Production Area Manager, direct the adjustments to the production scheduled as needed to maximize productivity.
  • Implement, monitor and report on programs that improve the health and safety of the work team and of the salmon with the goal of meeting and exceeding regulatory compliance

Your Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of two complete cycles of fish production including smolt entry, bloom season, and harvest
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a post-secondary education in aquaculture or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Shift schedule works 8 days on and 6 days off.
  • Apply appropriate feeding strategies to grow and manage fish welfare, either through hand feeding or auto-feeding techniques 
  • Monitor fish activity and conduct environmental monitoring and sampling activities to ensure proper fish welfare 
  • Maintain a clean and safe site by performing simple maintenance, following bio security, setting up sites, and closing sites 
  • Operating heavy machinery such as forklifts and watercraft
