Job Title: Lab Technician - Functional Genomics 

Department: School of Environmental Studies

Location: College Drive Campus 

Status: Temporary Part-Time - New 

Hours Per Week:  Up to 24 hours/ week

Pay Rate: $23.42/ hour

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in biology, biotechnology, chemistry or a related discipline
  • Cell tissue training
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent laboratory experience
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture is an advantage
  • Experience with cell culture Standard Operating Procedures is required
  • Strong attention to detail and proficiency in aseptic techniques
  • Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple responsibilities
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to understand and follow complex protocols and instructions, both orally and in writing
  • Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet software is beneficial
  • Must be able to reliably commute to North Bay, ON required

 

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the maintenance of the cell culture equipment, including cleaning, ensuring CO2 gas supply, and conducting routine contamination checks
  • Prepare cell culture media along with related reagents and growth factors
  • Execute quality assurance procedures to maintain quality control over all lab materials and equipment
  • Manage the maintenance, cryopreservation, and cataloging of various cell culture lines
  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize lab equipment, ensuring the laboratory remains safe and organized
  • Set up lab environments to ensure all equipment is properly placed and operational before use by students and faculty
  • Assist with inventory management by restocking routine items, obtaining quotes, and tracking inventory levels
