Legal counsel
Founded in 1956, BPA is a consulting engineering firm specializing in buildings for institutional, commercial, multi-unit residential, and industrial markets. With a strong presence across Canada, we provide our clients with expertise in mechanical and structural engineering, electricity and power, sustainable development, energy efficiency, telecommunications, security, building automation, acoustics, food service, and commissioning.
As part of our ongoing growth, BPA is excited to expand our legal team and is actively seeking an in-house Legal Counsel. You’ll work closely with our Legal Director, providing legal services across common law provinces, with a particular focus on Ontario, Alberta, and Nova Scotia. Main responsibilities
- Corporate documentation: write resolutions in English (shareholders and directors);
- Contracts: analyze, prepare and draft various types of agreements requested by Engineers in common law provinces;
- Litigation: management of cases in common law provinces with insurers and external lawyers;
- Translation and adaptation: translation of French legal documents to English and adaptation from civil law to common law.
- Legal research in common law.
Profile required
- Bachelor’s degree in common law;
- Registered attorney in a common law province;
- Knowledge of business laws and in particular corporate laws and contracts;
- At least five (3) years of relevant experience (in-house or in a law firm);
- Excellent ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization in English and French;
- Ability to manage priorities, perform under pressure and multi-task;
- Strong customer service skills and results-oriented;
- Hybrid schedule;
