Structural Engineer
Founded in 1956, BPA is a consulting engineering firm that specializes in buildings for institutional, commercial, multi-unit residential, and industrial markets. With a Canada-wide presence, we offer our clients expertise in mechanical and structural engineering, electricity and power, sustainable development and energy efficiency, telecommunications, security, building automation, acoustics, food service, and commissioning. we are currently looking for a Structural Engineer to join our team in Kanata.
In this role, you will collaborate with team leads, project managers, and technical staff to successfully complete structural projects. You will ensure designs meet all required standards and codes, provide guidance to junior engineers, and assist senior engineers in keeping projects on schedule.
In this role, you will:
- Set design protocols according to relevant codes and standards
- Assist Senior Engineers in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data, and adherence to design, analysis, and computation methods.
- Give technical guidance to Junior Engineers or technicians assigned to work on a common project.
- Lead the analysis and design of building elements (concrete, steel, masonry, wood, etc.) using hand calculations and advanced software tools like SAFE, ETABS, and AutoCAD
- Monitor project progress, ensuring it’s completed on time and within budget
- Provide hands-on guidance to Junior Engineers and technicians, ensuring strict adherence to design protocols and the highest quality standards.
- Perform field reviews of construction projects, assess whether the work aligns with design specifications, and prepare detailed reports, site instructions, and progress approvals.
- Foster strong relationships with clients, ensure their satisfaction, and actively contribute to preparing proposals and meeting all contractual obligations.
- Develop concise, well-organized structural engineering reports for clients and project managers, adhering to departmental formatting and quality standards.
Does this describe you?
- You hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
- You have 4 years of experience working on relevant projects with an engineering consulting firm
- You excel at managing projects, ensuring they are completed on time, keeping clients satisfied, and balancing resources across multiple clients
- You’re skilled in creating design drawings and are proficient at problem-solving, staying organized, and communicating effectively with both your team and clients
- You are a Licensed Engineer under the PEO’s Terms and Conditions or have started the licensing process
