SUMMARY
Achēv is a not for profit, progressive corporation operating from nine locations across the greater Toronto area. We enhance the self sufficiency and effectiveness of individuals and organizations by offering customized education, training and career resource solutions. As part of the Employment Ontario (EO) network we work with individuals, employers and communities to build the highly-skilled, highly-educated workforce that Ontario needs to be competitive.
The Career Specialist 1 position will work primarily to deliver service to clients requiring Rapid Services and ongoing support to transition into sustainable employment under the Employment Services Model. The Employment Specialist will work in a fast-paced, team environment to deliver customer-centric service that fulfils the obligations established under EO. Through their work with the team, the Career Specialist 1 will apply the range of informational, technological and administrative supports necessary to support the activities of customers and colleagues.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Job Search
- Facilitate structured and individualized support for conducting successful job search to individuals in a group and/or individual setting in person or virtual based on established action plan activities and make recommendations as needed
- Provide support with the preparation of job search tools and strategies, including resumes and applications, interview techniques and coaching, Education and training options and current labour market information
- Provide support with referral and access to other services including, but not limited to education and training, workforce development, mentorship
- Maintain up-to-date information on local labour market, community resources & referral protocols
- Utilize funder and internal case management systems for tracking clients, conducting follow up and related data entry requirements as the client progresses in their job search and recording activities in accordance to funder expectations
- Maintain Case Notes and documentation of client engagement, progress of completion of action items from individualized Employment Action Plans
- Conduct 1-1 or group orientation sessions and workshops for appropriate clients and promote Achēv programs and services
- Collect, review, data enter and evaluate client information and service information with reference to Service Delivery Guidelines
- Assist in the coordination of site and community events that meet the mandate of the Employment Service Model.
- Additional Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide Support to the administrative assistant with client inquiries and Resource and Information and other areas of the ES delivery model as required including but not limited to maintaining job boards, resources, support clients on computers
- Communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing with community partners and clients regarding Achēv Employment services programs
- Provide full range of outreach activities maintaining outcome data and statistics
- Maintain an organized and productive work environment
- Other duties, as required
- Flexibility to perform work on-site and/or from home as policies and environmental contexts demand.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Extensive knowledge of Employment Services; must have 1-2 years’ experience in an Employment Specialist role or related including facilitation, training case management and coaching in the employment/career services sector
- Completion of Career and Work Counselling post grad diploma or Post-Secondary degree or diploma in Business Administration, Human Resource or related discipline
- In-depth knowledge of community resources and local Labour Market
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving ability
- Time management and organization skills a must
- Extensive experience with Case Management System (EOIS CaMS) strongly preferred
- Proficient MS. Office skills: PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook
- Demonstrated knowledge of Job Search strategies, current employment trends, labor market information and appropriate workplace behaviors
- In- depth knowledge job search resources, online employment tools to help clients conduct a self-directed job search
- Experience in coordinating events such as job fairs, guest speaker sessions and special events
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups – including adults, youth, newcomers to Canada or other groups with specialized needs
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to multi task
- Strong team work, prioritization and problem-solving skills
- Goal oriented, highly organized, flexible and adaptable
- Ability to adapt to new technology in a continuously improving and changing work environment
- Demonstrated experienced in using third party software
- Ability to work evenings, weekends or split shifts as necessary
